The City of McKinney offers a credit for increased charges caused by a leak. The leak must be repaired before a credit is issued. The credit reduces the billed water rate to the city’s wholesale rate of $2.84 per 1,000 gallons. The credit is generally less than 50% of the billed amount. An average credit is $0.95 per 1,000 gallons. Based on our tiered water rates, leaks significantly increasing your consumption could result in a higher credit.
It may take up to three months to identify the leak and to see your usage return to “normal”. Your history is used to calculate normal usage. The gallons exceeding normal are attributed to the leak and will be considered for credit.
To avoid disconnection during the review period, payment in full must be made by the bill’s due date. If necessary, please contact our office to discuss a payment arrangement.
Leak adjustments cover up to three consecutive months; only one adjustment will be allowed in a 12-month period.
Turning off a sprinkler system does not constitute a repair.
