About the Planning Department
The Planning Department’s mission is to assist in the safe, balanced, efficient, visually appealing and economically sustainable physical development within McKinney’s ultimate planning area.
The Planning Department seeks to promote the stability and convenience of residents, aid in providing reasonable economic return for the client while simultaneously protecting the larger public interest and ensure high quality, balanced, aesthetically pleasing and safe development of the City of McKinney.
The department consists of two sections, the Development Review (Current) Planning Section and the Comprehensive (Long-Range) Planning Section. The Development Review Section’s duties primarily include the processing of development applications, while the Comprehensive Section’s duties primarily include the development of specific policy documents and special studies.
