Storm Water Management Program
The City of McKinney has developed a Storm Water Management Program (SWMP) in accordance with Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) Requirements for obtaining authorization for storm water and certain non-storm water discharges (TXR040000). The Storm Water Management Program has been developed in accordance with guidelines established by TCEQ for coverage under the TPDES General Permit.
The Storm Water Management Program has been developed to do the following:
- Reduce the discharge of pollutants from the city's MS4 to the maximum extent practicable
- Protect water quality
- Satisfy the appropriate water quality requirements of the Clean Water Act and the Texas Water Code

An amended
Storm Water Management Ordinance was passed by the City Council in 2009. The ordinance addresses issues such as protecting stream banks from erosion, containing sediment from construction activities, improving NRCS lakes, sizing storm drains and protecting structures from flooding.
