End Panhandling

Being homeless is not a crime

Homelessness can happen to anyone. Unexpected circumstances at a time when family and friends can't help are the usual causes of homelessness. Unfortunately, many people experience homelessness; usually for three months or less.

Have a heart, give smart

Giving money to panhandlers doesn’t fix problems. In order to truly help those in need, we urge you to join with us and support organizations and services that provide long-lasting care and stop giving money to panhandlers

Our reputation for compassion and generosity has led to a problem with panhandlers who are not homeless and do not reside in McKinney.

To help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, the city financially supports nonprofit organizations whose mission is to provide food and shelter services to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

  • Find local charities to support
  • Spread the word; let your friends and neighbors know the best ways to help.
  • Encourage panhandlers to call 211 or text their zip code to TXT211 (898211)
  • Provide Panhandlers with Community Resource Cards

Don't forget to share this message with your friends and encourage those in need to call or text 211 IMPACT for resources.
