McKinney Fire Department battles intense house fire

The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) received a call about a structure fire Sunday evening that included secondary explosions. MFD crews arrived at 4613 Wemberly Ct. to find intense flames in the garage and the left side of the home. First responders say the occupants of the home were able to get out safely. Although the homeowner was trying to battle the flames with a garden hose, the damage to the house is extensive. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“This is a strong reminder to check and make sure that your smoke alarms are in good working condition.” said McKinney Fire Marshal Mike Smith. ‘Fire is very fast and that early warning can be the difference between life and death.”

Fact: U.S. fire departments respond to an average of one home fire every 88 seconds.
