Voters will elect one At-Large City Council member in Jan. 15 Special Election

McKINNEY, Texas (Nov. 2, 2021) – Voters in McKinney will elect one of two At-Large City Council members in a Special Election on Saturday, Jan. 15. The Candidate Packet is available online at the elections webpage for individuals interested in learning more about running. The first day to file for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, Nov. 3. The deadline to file is Friday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. Applications are accepted 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, and Sunday, Nov. 7.

The At-Large Council seat was vacated when Council Member Frederick Frazier announced his candidacy to run for a state House Representative seat. Because his term has more than one year remaining, state law requires his replacement to be elected rather than appointed. He will continue service until a replacement member is determined. The newly-elected representative will serve the remainder of the term until 2023.

The deadline to register to vote is Thursday, Dec. 16. Early voting takes place from Dec. 29–Jan. 11, except Dec. 31, and Jan. 1–2.

The candidate packet includes necessary forms, instructions, eligibility requirements, important dates related to the election and campaign sign rules. Hardcopies of the Candidate Packet are available upon request from the City Secretary at City Hall, 222 N. Tennessee St.
