Rentable kayaks offer residents an affordable way to enjoy the weather and explore nature
McKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 14, 2023) – To help people enjoy the cooler temperatures, the City of McKinney is launching a refreshing new way to explore nature at Towne Lake Park. Residents and visitors can now use self-service kiosks to rent kayaks to explore the city's stunning waterways in a safe, convenient, and affordable way.
Each kayak rental comes with a paddle and life jacket and costs an initial $3 to unlock the kiosk and $3 for every 30 minutes. Four kayaks are available to rent next to the kayak launch from sun-up to sun-down.
“From the comfort of your own kayak, you can paddle around our scenic Towne Lake and simply enjoy the nature surrounding you,” said Interim Director of Parks and Recreation Ryan Mullins. “With this new program, we hope to encourage more people to get out and enjoy all of McKinney’s natural beauty.”
The City of McKinney will host a series of kayaking classes for beginners at Towne Lake Park in September and October. The class teaches the basics of kayaking, including safety, how to launch the boat, and how to plan for a safe trip. All equipment is provided. To register, visit the city’s website.
