1.
What information do I need before registering my team?
You need the participants’ names and t-shirt size. Also the number of patches needed for Girl Scout or Boy Scout Troops.
2.
What if I forgot to add or need to delete someone from my team?
Changes to the team roster can be made at any time until noon the day before the event. We would appreciate it if you would call or email changes at once so they can be made systematically.
3.
What if it rains?
Typically the event continues rain or shine. If there is a forecast for a torrential downpour or extreme low temperatures, we will cancel event. In the past, volunteers have just bundled up with appropriate weather apparel and still attended the event for its duration.
4.
Is the event lunch free?
Yes, the event lunch is free. The lunch provided is a hot dog, a bag of chips, a cookie and a drink.
5.
Are the t-shirts free?
Yes, the t-shirts are free in appreciation for your hard work.
6.
Are the patches free?
Yes, they are provided for you by the City of McKinney.
7.
Do I need to bring any tools?
We supply plastic gloves, a limited number of litter grabbers, trash and recycle bags. We also have sunscreen and bug spray cans available for your use at check-in tables. Sometimes residents bring rakes and garden tools for excavating litter out of pond and lake banks but it is not necessary.
8.
What locations are being cleaned?
We have 40 locations throughout the city that have been identified as target areas by our stormwater department. We focus on areas where the litter is about to go into a body of water. We rank according to difficulty and ideal age of volunteers for that location.
